If defending champion Brian Parks of Bakersfield, Calif, is going to make it back to the finals in this year’s event, he’ll  be doing it through the one-loss bracket.  Parks fell late Saturday evening to Chuck Roth of Forest Hill, Md., 7-5.

Roth, who’s competing in his fourth U.S. Amateur Championship, is one win away from a spot in the finals, following  a win over David Uwate of Miami, Fla., and has secured no worse than a 3rd Place finish – quite a step up from his previous best finished of 33rd Place.

Roth awaits the winner of a match up between Carlos Carter of Toney, Ala., and Johnny Griffin of Apex, N.C. – both of whom remain undefeated.

Parks appears to have rebounded from the narrow loss last night, securing victories over fellow former champion Raymond Linares of Miami, and veteran Steve Lenz of Mauriceville, Texas.  He awaits the loser of the match between Carter and Griffin.
