APA Open 9-Ball Doubles Championship

Mutt & Jeff 9-Ball Doubles Champions

The 9-Ball Doubles Championships concluded with Help From Above from Bridgeport, Conn., Robert Hull (SL 4) and Kimberly Hull (SL 3) playing Mutt & Jeff from Whitehall, Pa., Debbie Phillips (SL 2) and Al Phillips Sr. (SL 4). The race was 25 (Help From Above) to 19 (Mutt & Jeff).

Kim and Al squared off for the lag, Al won by a hair (determined by the referee). Debbie broke the first rack to start the match. Both teams were nervous as they played with the one ball for four rounds. Robert finally broke the cycle, he and Kim were able to sink a few, but with only two balls left on the table, Robert scratched, giving Al ball-in-hand and three points. Team Mutt & Jeff were quick in sinking their balls and won the Championship in just three racks. The final score was 19 to 7.

“I can’t believe this,” said Debbie of Mutt & Jeff, “this is just so amazing. I didn’t know I was on the last ball when I shot it, if I did know I probably won’t have been able to do it!” Debbie and Al lost their first match early on and both were excited about the outcome, “we had a lot of fun, the teams we played were great and the experience was amazing.”
