The Triple Play Pre-registered Championship event concluded on Friday with Three California Amigos, Frank Almanza, Jose Garcia and Elias Valles of Upland, Calif defeating the Triple 7’s, Troy Pasley, Joe Nielsen and Jobie Gross of Canton, Ill. The Three California Amigos took home a first place prize of $7,500; the Triple 7’s took home $2,700.

Three California Amigos, Frank Almanza, Jose Garcia and Elias Valles of Upland, CalifThe Three California Amigos are familiar with playing under pressure in this event; they have placed in at least the top two the past three years. In 2001 they claimed 1st in this event, and last year placed 2nd. “It was great to be back,” said captain Frank Almanza, “we enjoy this event, playing together is great. We do play some tough teams out here, the competition gets harder and harder but we have a great time.”

Participants in the Triple Play event can be any combination of men or women with no Skill Level limit. The event was a modified single elimination format; the maximum field for this event was 128 entries. Matches were an individual race-to-5, best two out of three for the match.

The Amigos claimed the first win of the night, Frank shot against Joe. Frank got off to a slow start as Joe had three wins to Frank’s one, but Frank quickly claimed the next four games, quickly shutting out his opponent with a Break and Run in his third won game. Triple 7’s tied up the score winning their next match, Troy defeated Jose, but game for game they were tied up until the end, Troy also had a Break and Run. The third and final match gave the victory to the Three California Amigo’s withy Elias over Jobie, it was a fight to the bitter end. Both players kept the score even until the last possible match, with Jobie achieving one Break and Run. The competition was hot on the table when the best Triple Play teams went head to head.
