2003 Artistic Pool Challenge
Tom “Dr. Cue” Rossman held the final APA Artistic Pool Challenge Thursday morning. Twenty participants were randomly chosen to participate in the challenge, competitors included Dan Kirner, Dean Johnson, Leo Roman, Paul Bentley, Steve Lozea, Billy Oden, Ed Jacobson, Danny Garza, Lou Bullock, RC Fowler, Josh Splawn, Eric Priest, Michael Henderson, Tim Sowers, Lewis Boone, Gary Chaisson, Darrell Dixon, Jeffery Walker, Jamie Jacobson, and Diane Policastro. Tom set up a series of shots including push shots, novelty shots, rack shots, wing shots, reverse wing shots and kickback shots for contestants to attempt, each participant had a determined number of attempts to try each shot, if he or she didn’t make it they were disqualified. After 11 rounds the field was narrowed to three contestants, Ed Jacobson, from Illinois, Lewis Boone from Alabama, and RC Fowler from Las Vegas. It took three rounds to finally declare a winner, but Ed Jacobson from Chicago, Ill. was the winner. Ed has been an APA member for 3 years, “I just started playing pool about three years ago, I practice everyday and I saw Tom one time when he came to the Chicago area and I was hooked on trick shots,” said Ed, “I love to compete and pool has become a major part of my life.” Tim received a $500 Predator cue as his prize.

Twenty participants were randomly chosen to participate in the challenge, competitors included Jeff Andrews, Leroy Campbell, Michael Henderson, Ed Jacobson, Irv Leblanc, Lloyd Smith, Bill Peyton, Francis Mott, Scott Gardner, Rick Washington, Tim Sowers, Steve Loza, RC Fowler, Nick Curro, Ken Fogg, Ginger Rumsey, Diane Policastro, Tony D’Amore, Mike Jones and Kent Bourque. Tom set up a series of shots including artistic lag, kiss, rack and five rail shots for contestants to attempt, each participant had two attempts to try each shot, if he or she didn’t make it they were disqualified. After 7 rounds the field was narrowed to three contestants, Tim Sowers, from Illinois, Diane Policastro from New Jersey, and RC Fowler from Las Vegas. It took two rounds to finally declare a winner, but Tim Sowers from Effingham, Ill. came out on top. Tim has been an APA member for 17 years and is attending the National Team Championships to participate in the pre-registered Triple Play Championship. Tim had his choice of a $500 Predator cue as his prize.

Twenty participants were randomly chosen to participate in the challenge, Linda Bourque, Qurram Nasri, Tom Oakes, Leo Roman, Chuck Thomas, Matt Toulouse, Ray Ciappa, Scott Bumb, Carl Paul, Jim Woodall, Fred Schifano, Mary Champagne, John L. Lawrence, Jr., Butch Harris, PJ Calcutt, RC Fowler, Jimmy Mell, Tori Dwight, Brian Jamieson, Jamie Branham were the first to compete in this event. Tom set up a series of trick and fancy shots for contestants to attempt, each participant had two attempts to try each shot, if he or she didn’t make it they were disqualified. After 12 rounds the field was narrowed to two contestants, Chuck Thomas, from Philadelphia, PA and John L. Lawrence, Jr., from Colorado Springs, CO. It took three rounds to finally declare a winner, but John L. Lawrence came out on top. “I’ve been an APA member for over 10 years, I was supposed to be competing in the 8-Ball event, but the rest of my team wasn’t able to come out, so we had to forfeit our first match, anyway I’m glad I was able to participate in this,” said Lawrence, “I watch Tom of TV all the time, he’s great.” John had his choice of a $500 Predator cue as his prize. |
