Open 8-Ball 3-Person Results

Mike Defino, John Pasquarella and Shane Manaole of San Diego, CalifThe Open 8-Ball 3-Person event concluded on Saturday with The Hurricanes, Mike Defino, John Pasquarella and Shane Manaole of San Diego, Calif., defeating the 2001 3-Person defending champs Three California Amigos, Frank Almanza, Jose Garcia and Elias Valles of Upland, Calif. The Hurricanes took home a first place prize of $7,500; the Three California Amigos took home $2,700.

The Open 8-Ball 3-Person Team Event participants could be any combination of men or women with no Skill Level limit. The event was a modified single elimination format; the maximum field for this event was 128 entries, the size of the board was based on the number of entries. Matches were an individual race-to-5, best two out of three for the match.

The Hurricanes began the game with a swift victory as John Pasquarella claimed three victories with three Break and Runs in a row. When Frank Almanza got his first shot at the table he ran out with the solids; giving him his first and only win for the match. John quickly regained control of the table and won the following two games. The second game put Elias Valles against Mike Defino, after six rounds Mike had two wins to Elias' four, Elias secured the victory with a Break and Run to end the game. With both teams on the hill, it was anybody's game. The final game saw Shane Manaole defeating Jose Garcia after a hill/hill match. After nine rounds of close competition, the game came down to the final round and The Hurricanes emerged victorious.
