MiniMania - Open 8-Ball Doubles The field had been narrowed to two teams for the 8-Ball Doubles finals that took place Sunday, August 19. Two teams "David and Stephen", consisting of David Elloitt and Stephen Recker of Fruitland, MD, and "Who's Next", Ted Glancy and Mark
Glancy of Fairfield, OH, battled it out for 1st place. The game was a race to four with players taking alternate shots. All four players played strategically setting up shots for their partners. But in the end the team of David and Stephen prevailed in 1st place and took home $5,000. Camel Ladies Night Sunday night was Ladies Night in the Camel Speed Shot room. All the ladies in attendance were given raffle tickets, numbers were called all night for a chance to play with the pros and
to win prizes.
The pros participating were Dawn Hopkins, Allen Hopkins, Ming Ng, Vivian Villarreal, Shannon Daulton, Larry Hubbert, Nicole Mancini, and Ray Shultz. Allen and Dawn Hopkins kicked off the evening with a pro exhibition. They gave the audience pool tips and performed a few of their trick shots. Next up was the 8-Ball Doubles game; pro players were matched up with amateur ladies in the audience for the event. The amateurs lagged and broke each rack. The game was a race to two. Similar to the 8-Ball Doubles game was a 9-Ball Doubles game, again pros were matched up with amateur ladies in the audience games were a race to three.
During the Women's Pro Challenge ladies were chosen from the crowd to play the pros. The game was 8-Ball, APA rules.
Now where the fun lied was in the amateur ladies' skill level. If the lady chosen was a skill level 6 or 7 the pro and amateur would play head to head. If the lady chosen was a skill level 4 or 5 the pro had to play opposite handed. If the lady chosen was a skill level 2 or 3 the pro had to play opposite handed and she had to bank every shot. When the amateur lady won she received $100, if the pro won the amateur was given a consolation prize. A great time was had by all. To conclude the evening the pros participated in a Jack n' Jill Shootout. Dawn and Vivian challenged Allen and Larry and Shannon and Ray challenged Ming and Nicole. |
