Jack & Jill 8-Ball Doubles Championship

Overkill Defeats Bust-n-Loose in Finals

The final match of the Jack & Jill Preregistered Championships paired Bust-n-Loose from Mobile, AL, teammates Mike Jones (SL6) and Chrissi Moore (SL4) head-to-head against husband and wife team Overkill from Fayetteville, OH teammates Larry Overstake (SL6) and Lisa Overstake (SL2). After two and a half days of competition, the field had been narrowed to these two teams competing for the $5,000 first place prize.

The Friday evening game was a 4-3 race. The lag found Overkill racking the balls for Bust-n-Loose.  Chrissi, of Bust-n-Loose, began the game with the first break.  It was a see-saw match until the end when Chrissi finished what she started by sinking the 8 in the corner pocket.

Overkill felt the pressure and dominated in the second game, giving Bust-n-Loose a chance on the break.  The Overstakes sunk their seven balls in a row, and Larry called the 8 in the side for the win.  The match was at1-1.

The third game was a toss up until the end.  Lisa of Overkill broke the rack but didn’t sink any balls.  Mike claimed solids and together he and Chrissi eliminated five of their balls right away.  Overkill caught up quickly with their own four ball run.  After a few times to the table for both teams, Overkill prevailed climbing ahead 2-1.

The final game was quick and painless.  Lisa broke the rack, handing the table over to Mike.  Mike and Chrissi were able to sink five of their category, but a tricky cluster prevented them from going any farther.  Larry and Lisa cleared their category in a clean run, winning the Jack & Jill Championship 3-1.

“This is unbelievable, I never dreamed of winning,” said Lisa Overstake.  “We played well, we knew we had a chance, we thought we were out in the third match, but the game turned our way and we won,” added Larry Overstake.  “Our plan was not to get nervous and to treat this like any other day, any other match,” finished Lisa.

“It feels great to have been able to come so far, it’s more than I ever expected, I think the trust we have in each other’s playing ability, the faith we have in each other, helped us get to the final round,” said Chrissi Moore.  She and Mike took home a total of $3,000.
