Jack & Jill Final Standings
The final match of the Jack & Jill Preregistered Championships saw Different Strokers from Erath, LA, teammates Virginia Decoux (SL5) and Cody Segura (SL5) head-to-head against T-Rods from Peoria, IL teammates Tina Carrigan (SL4) and Rodney Wallace (SL5). After two and a half days of competition, the field had been narrowed to these two teams competing for the $5,000 first place prize.
The Friday evening game was a Race to 4. The lag found T-Rods racking the balls for Different Strokers.
Different Strokers came in head strong and set the pace
of the game right away. Different Strokers cleared the table between the
two of them. The second game was more challenging; Cody broke not sinking
anything giving T-Rods their first chance at the table. Rodney and Tina
were able to clear most of their balls before giving Different Strokers
another chance. With only one more category ball to clear before the eight
an unfortunate cluster of balls challenged T-Rods and the table was turned
over to Cody. Different Strokers was able to clear their solids for a
win, keeping them ahead 2-0.
Another see-saw battle had both teams at the table quite often during the third game. Different Strokers quickly regained their lead by winning again; 3-0.
In the fourth game Different Strokers got off to a strong
start, sinking the stripes and following their category down five balls,
but losing their advantage to a scratch. Rodney, with ball in hand, led
T-Rod to catch up, after a crucial miss, Different Strokers were allowed
back at the table clearing the table for the win.
Different Strokers defeated T-Rods 4-0.
“There were some strong teams just as good as us out there, but we played smart, used safeties as our strategy and made it through, my goal was first or nothing” said Virginia, “it feels good to have competed so well.”
