2004 APA 8-Ball Classic Singles Championship Three champions were crowned Saturday afternoon in the $200,000 APA 8-Ball Classic. In the blue tier (SL 2-3), it was Jim Yorke (SL 3) of Brampton, Ont., Canada defeating Tim Lancaster (SL 3) of Brandon, Miss., 2-0. Yorke advanced to the final round with a victory over Peggy Herald (SL 3) of Iron Station, N.C. Lancaster advanced after defeating Kevin Nordberg (SL 3) of Port Huron, Mich. In the yellow tier (SL 4&5), Kevin Belknap (SL 5) of Sherwood, Ark., defeated Corey Avallone (SL 5) of Valley Cottage, N.Y., 4-3. Belknap defeated Tina Allen (SL 4) of Temple, Texas to advance to the finals, while Avallone advanced with a win over Brandon Britton (SL 6) of Church Hill, Tenn. In the purple tier (SL 6-7), David Weaver (SL 7) of Broken Arrow, Okla., defeated Ricky Seak (SL 6) of Bridgeport, Conn., 5-1. Weaver advanced to the final round with a victory over Walter Riley (SL 7) of Orlando. Seak advanced after a win over Todd Zitzman (SL 6) of Toledo, Ohio. Each champion received a prize package worth $15,000 in cash and prizes. More than 39,000 amateur shooters attempted to qualify for the 2004 APA 8-Ball Classic Singles Championship in their local league area. Nearly 5,000 poolplayers made it to the regional level of the 8-Ball Classic before the field was whittled down to 335 men and women competing this weekend for 8-Ball crowns in each of the three skill level tiers.
