Mardi Gras – Party by the Pool

The 2003 National Singles Championships ended with a bang this year as APA hosted the Mardi Gras Pool Party! Guests were adorned with beads, masks, hats and feathered boas as they entered the party poolside. Entertainment included a live DJ and artistic pool trick shot champion Tom “Dr. Cue” Rossman! Party-goers also were able to get free photos, Henna tattoos and caricatures! The DJ gave away great AmberBock prizes during the trivia games. Click here to see pictures from the party.

League Operator Meets Up with Players

Michigan League Operator Nona Rosebohm met up with two of her players on Friday during the tournament. Robert Meyer and Michael Horn were checking out the tournament boards between matches when Nona caught up with them.

“This has been a great tournament,” said Meyer, “it’s been a lot of fun. Even though we are out of the tournament we are still having a great time and we will until it’s over.”

“It’s been a great tournament, it’s my first time out here for an APA tournament and it’s been really neat,” added Horn.

Competition is Getting Tighter

APA staff members Diana Leedom and David Unnerstall update the tournament boards between rounds. The competition is getting tighter for everyone as some participants are being eliminated. Those still in the tournament check the boards to determine who they play and where they will be playing next.

Vendors Supply Participants

Vendors were available to participants during the entire duration of the tournament. Participants had the opportunity to purchase equipment, cues, cases, shirts and other pool related merchandise. Mueller Recreational products had the Big Damn Giveaway truck on display. The silver Ford F-150, 4x4 regular cab truck will be given away this summer in their Big Damn Prize Giveaway sweepstakes. The truck values at over $30,000! Consumer Contact Company and Khamsin Designs were on hand selling National Singles Championships souvenir shirts. More items from Consumer Contact and Khamsin can be ordered from the front page of the Web site.

Benjamin Wiebe & Jill Rempel First Match a Success

Benjamin Wiebe has one victory under his belt in the APA 8-Ball Classic. “I’m glad I won my first match,” said Wiebe, “the jitters are gone now and it’s just playing pool from here on out!”

Wiebe is not alone at the Championships this year, accompanying him is Jill Rempel. “I’m Ben’s biggest fan out here, support is very important and I’m here cheering him on!” said Rempel.

Wiebe and Rempel are both from Winnipeg, Canada. This is Wiebe’s first National tournament and hopes the success of his first match carries through to the end of the tournament. “I was extremely nervous at first but this is a great tournament and I’m getting used to the idea that I’m actually out here!”

Chuck and Angie NoormanWedding Bells are Ringing

Grand Rapids, Michigan APA members Chuck and Angie Noorman met 11 years ago. Four years ago they took their friendship to a higher level and began dating. April 23, 2003, Chuck and Angie decided to make a life long commitment to each other and said “I DO”, Las Vegas style!

“We met playing pool, it just seemed right to get married out here, Chuck won the chance to play out here so we came out three days early, stayed at the Monte Carlo and got married there yesterday,” said Angie.

Congratulations to Chuck and Angie!
