2003 Jack & Jill Championship

Jack & Jill Championships Results

The final match for the Jack & Jill Preregistered Championships found the Midwest against the East Coast as Poultry Power from Brookfield, Ill. went head-to-head against the husband and wife team Expecting A’s from Bayonne, NJ. After two and a half days of competition, 17 Rounds and 446 matches, the field had been narrowed to these two teams competing for the $5,000 first place prize.

Barry Partridge, skill level 4, and Laura Bendikas, skill level 5, of Poultry Power met Joseph, skill level 6, & Erin, skill level 4, Aidukas of Expecting A’s Friday afternoon in a Race to 4 game. The coin toss found Joseph racking the balls for Laura.

Laura made a strong break but didn’t claim a category. Joseph stepped up to claim solids and the match went back and forth from there. Erin made the first attempt on the 8-ball when Poultry Power had six stripes left on the table, without a clear shot on the 8 the table turned back to Barry and Laura, they quickly cleared their balls and sunk the 8; making the game 1-0.

Expecting A’s secured the second game, but Poultry Power took the lead again in the third and fourth match. With the score 3-1, in favor of Barry and Laura, Joseph and Erin secured another win by running the table. In the fifth match Laura broke the rack; Erin was up to shoot and took a time-out before her first shot. She and Joseph planned their strategy and the two of them ran the table.

Barry and Laura took the final game, winning the match 4-2. Poultry Power shared $5,000 and Expecting A’s took home $3,000.

“It was a lot of fun, a doubles event is hard, there is a lot of pressure, but we got through it. We play on the same team at home so we had familiarity on our side,” said Laura, “but everyone played really well and we had so much fun!”

“We were surprised we made it so far,” said Joseph, “we’ve shot well these past few days, but we’ve come across some tough competition. The quarterfinals were challenging, but we made it and we are pleased with being the Runners-Up.”
