Jack 'n Jill Doubles Event

Jack n’ Jill Doubles Results

Mara Warner and Rion Reichman The 2001 Jack n’ Jill Doubles Event was played in the MiniMania Room during the Camel 8-Ball Classic and Jack Daniel’s Old No.7 9-Ball Shootout Singles Championships, May 2-4.  Teams entering the event could only consist of male/female players with a combined skill level of 10.  The event ran on a modified single elimination format.  This was an Open event, which meant players alternated shots, not turns.

The Jack n’ Jill Doubles Tournament wrapped up Friday afternoon, with Mara Warner and Rion Reichman, of Ace’s Banditos, competing against Samual Bolin and April Kelly for $5,000.  Warner and Reichman are from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Warner is a skill level 3 and Reichman a skill level 7; they have been playing on a team together for 2 ½ years. Bolin and Kelly are from Albuquerque, New Mexico; Bolin and Kelly have been in the APA for 2 ½ years. Both Bolin and Kelly are skill level 5’s.

The tournament began with 112 teams competing. As teams were knocked out, the competition got heavier.  The Finals Match was a race to 4 in 8-Ball. On the first rack Reichman got an 8-on-the-break.  During the next few games, both teams played cautiously.  In the third rack Reichman broke again, making three balls. In the end, Bolin called the side pocket to win the game.  After four racks the match was 3 to 1 in Warner’s and Reichman’s favor.  In the fifth rack Kelly called the corner to win the rack.  After six games, Ace’s Banditos, Mara Warner and Rion Reichman won the match.

“One key, for us, to make it to the finals match was just staying calm during all of our matches,” said Kelley, “It was hard at times, but we made it.”

Warner said, “Something that helped us make it to the finals match was to make the balls and to set up shots for each other, I think that helped us greatly to win the game.” Warner and Reichman plan to get married next August; while today was Warner’s birthday.

The first place winners took home a $5,000 first place prize; the second place team took home $1,600.
