About Terry Bell
After securing numerous titles and spending the better part of a decade traveling the country playing pool, Terry Bell decided to settle down. He realized how popular billiards was becoming and knew that no organized system for recreational league play existed. So, amid much skepticism among professional players, Bell joined forces with Larry "The Iceman" Hubbart, who was also competing on the professional circuit. He cut back on the amount of time he played pool, but that's when he made his largest contribution to the sport as Co-Founder and the first President of the American Poolplayers Association, which now has a base of nearly 270,000 members.
He also helped promote the pro side of pool. In the early 1980s, he was the first president of the Men's Professional Billiards Association, a predecessor to the Professional Billiards Tour.
All those years of traveling and playing pool helped build Bell's reputation in the sport of pool, as he was voted 33rd in Billiards Digest's list of the "50 Greatest Players of the Century."
