Remembering Houston
Rodger Houston, a 10-year Houston, Texas APA member, was well known and well liked in his local League. “Rodger was a very personable guy, lots of people knew him,” said Robbie Hamilton, League Operator, “when he passed away this September, the loss affected many in the League; he had befriended so many people.”

Houston was 35 years old when he died; he had only been married a week to his wife, Candy. He had played with many teams over the years, both 8-Ball and 9-Ball. He attended the 2004 APA National Team Championships in the 9-Ball Division with The High Rollers team, and his team participated and won 1st Place in the Ladies/9-Ball Division Team Shirt Contest. Their winning shirts were designed by APA member Derek Bera.

Bera’s next shirt design was bittersweet; this time to remember a man everyone loved. Bera designed this shirt as a fundraiser for Houston’s family. Houston’s picture was put in the 8-Ball, to be remembered forever. All of the proceeds of a tournament and the shirt sales went to Candy. The local Houston APA members raised over $7,500.

“Rodger was a good man,” said Hamilton, “and what his fellow players did for him and his family after he was gone is just amazing. They have such big hearts.”
