Members Donate in a Big Way
The APA National Office held a donation drive for the American Red Cross following the disaster of Hurricane Katrina. Members were able to donate money to be presented to the Red Cross; donations were accepted through October 21, 2005 via team envelopes. While all donations were greatly appreciated, three teams in Pasadena, Md., did a little more than donate a few bucks.
APA member and Referee Rick Bolin plays on three teams, 8-Ball team Busch Rackers, 9-Ball team Kurt Busch and 9-Ball team They Talked Me Into It! On each team they have a “scratch pot.” At the end of each session the players (about 10 of them) get together and decide where to have a team dinner paid for by their scratch pot money collected for that session.
“We were talking about our upcoming dinner when a suggestion was made to send the dinner funds to the APA for the Red Cross,” said Bolin. “We wanted to help the folks in the south. We decided that it’s not like any of us are hurting for a meal, like so many thousands of people are in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, so we all agreed our money was going to the Red Cross.” Those three teams sent in $400 to the APA for the Red Cross donation! Their bighearted contribution and the kind generosity of many other players and League Operators were forwarded to the American Red Cross on behalf of the American Poolplayers Association on November 14, 2005. Members from across the country collected a total of $4,055.50.
