Hundreds of aspiring young poolplayers made their way to Davenport, Iowa July 17-20 for the inaugural APA Juniors Championships.  The event, held at Sharky’s Billiards, divided participants into three Skill Level Tiers—Green (SLs 1-2), White (SLs 3-5) and Black (SLs 6-9).  In addition, APA held MiniMania tournaments for both kids and adults to enjoy.

The awards banquet, held Thursday evening, was highlighted by a keynote address from billiard superstar “The Black Widow” Jeanette Lee.  Lee made an encore appearance on Friday to take in some of the tournament action and to take on a few brave challengers.

Academic awards were presented to participants with a 3.0 Grade Point Average or higher. Each recipient was presented a certificate and medallion for their achievement.

In the Green Tier, Alexander Downs of Moweaqua, Ill., defeated Memphis Norton of Gilbert, Ariz. In the White Tier, Ian Maldonado of New River, Ariz., defeated Kody Lewis of Decatur, Ill. In the Black Tier, River Burke of Andalusia, Ill., defeated Alex Payne of Dowagiac, Mich.

Each Champion received a trophy, Action cue and case, golf towel, gift bag from Kamui chalk and iPad Mini. Runners-Up took home a package that included a trophy, Action cue and case, golf towel, gift bag from Kamui chalk and Kindle Fire. Third-Place winners didn’t go home empty-handed either, earning a trophy, Action cue and case, golf towel, gift bag from Kamui chalk and MP3 player.
